I never expected something with such a goofy premise to be so deep and meaningful with emotional through-lines and character development that makes you care so much about every single character. You just get so many intersecting character lines, most of which each leaves you in tears, at least once, if not more, depending on how many episodes are devoted to it. Rather than 1 storyline that keeps leaving you in tears. So when I started it now, I had no idea the emotional rollercoaster I was in for. Several years ago, I only got 4 episodes into the 2001 version before giving up. I’m so glad i didn’t let my dislike for the first anime stop me. I do love the romantic bits that are there. I was surprised how much it really was slice-of-life, and not about romance. ((i’m checking tumblr, twitter, google, pixiv, pinterest, and deviantart)) But if you haven’t seen it, rest assured, most of the series doesn’t have that much focus on romance or romantic development. There is not enough fan art of all the canon couples either MY gosh, now i understand why it’s so well liked
